The Sligo Concert Band was founded in 1990 and has continued under the musical direction of, among others, Tom Burke, Gavin Egan, Dieter Hotz, Mike Roberts and most recently Mr Don Swain who took the baton from his predecessor Mike Roberts in January 2001.
The band is a wind band consisting of brass, woodwind and percussion instruments. The range of instruments featured include cornets, trumpets, trombones, tubas, baritones, horns, and euphonium in the brass section, and flutes, clarinets, saxophones, bassoon, and piccolo in the woodwind section, along with a comprehensive percussion section.
Sligo Concert Band is an amateur group with a board of directors and an elected committee to run the affairs of the band.
.
Our membership is drawn from a wide area. Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo are all represented with a particularly strong representation from both Ballyshannon and Sligo. The numbers have varied from between about 25 and 35 over the years. And all ages are represented from teenagers to the over 70's.
Our musical repertoire is quite varied and includes some classical pieces, blues, jazz, pop selections, hymns, carols, marches and recently some big band selections.
The band performs both indoors and outdoors, North and South, throughout the year. Regular events include our Spring concert, St. Patrick's day parade, Christmas concert and the odd Pub Gig. (And boy are they ODD!!!!!)
Numerous bands have visited and played with us, namely, Stadtkapelle Kempton, the Eynsford concert band, the Potsdam fanfare band and the Britannia Band from Derry. We returned the complement by visiting Kempten in Bavaria.

Rehearsals are at 10:15 every Sunday Morning in the Nazareth House, Sligo and sections of the band practice on other evenings.
New members are ALWAYS welcome, just pop in on Sunday Morning, coffee break at 11:15 or e-mail casey.michael@itsligo.ie. Alternatively phone Michael Casey at 071-9155491.
